Background

He joined Toshiba in April 1982 and moved to Shibaura Mechatronics in August 1996. He served as engineering manager of the Fine Mechatronics Division in October 2000, senior manager of the wet process equipment department at the Yokohama works in October 2002, and head of that department in April 2006. He became head of the Fine Mechatronics Division in April 2007, a Director in June 2008 and Managing Director in June 2009, rising to the board from the semiconductor manufacturing equipment engineering side. He held 5,000 shares.

Selection

According to his annual securities report biography, he became Representative Director and President in June 2014 and served as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer from June 2017. In the fiscal year ended March 2013, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥30.4 billion with a net loss of ¥1.4 billion, a second straight year in the red. Shibaura Mechatronics took its current name upon merging with Toshiba Mechatronics in October 1998, and Toshiba was its largest shareholder with 36.54%. The three men holding the posts of President, Senior Managing Executive Officer and Managing Executive Officer in the fiscal year ended March 2019 had all come via Toshiba and joined in August 1996; Fujita became a Director 12 years after joining, and his successor Keigo Imamura after 18.

Initiatives

During his tenure consolidated net sales rose from ¥30.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2013 to ¥53.1 billion in the FY ended March 2019, operating income from ¥0.1 billion to ¥4.0 billion, and net results swung from a ¥1.4 billion loss to a ¥2.5 billion profit. In April 2015 a Mechatronics Systems Division was created, establishing a two-division structure with the Fine Mechatronics Division. In June 2017 the company adopted an executive officer system, with Fujita as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer and the division heads as Directors and Executive Officers. In the FY ended March 2020, his final year, net sales fell to ¥47.1 billion and operating income to ¥3.1 billion.
