Background

He joined Hitachi in April 1981 and in October 2001 was manager of production engineering in the semiconductor group's mass-production process technology division. In April 2003 he moved to Renesas Technology, where he handled wafer process development at the Naka works. He joined Hitachi Kokusai Electric in April 2009, rising from manager of vertical deposition equipment design at the Toyama Works to manager of the Toyama Works in April 2011 and Senior Vice President and head of the Electronic Machinery Division in April 2016. He was an engineer whose career ran through the design and production of deposition equipment.

Selection

In June 2018 he became the first President of KOKUSAI ELECTRIC, which took over the semiconductor manufacturing equipment business in a corporate split of Hitachi Kokusai Electric. Just before, as Senior Vice President and head of the Electronic Machinery Division at Hitachi Kokusai Electric, he had led the very business being transferred. The head of the carved-out business simply carried over to become President of the independent company.

Initiatives

He served as President for about seven years, from the company's launch in June 2018 to April 2025. Consolidated results can be traced in the annual securities report from the fiscal year ended March 2023, when net sales were ¥245.7 billion, operating income ¥56.1 billion and net income ¥40.3 billion. In the FY ended March 2024 net sales fell to ¥180.8 billion and operating income to ¥30.7 billion, and in the FY ended March 2025, his final year, they recovered to ¥238.9 billion, ¥51.3 billion and net income of ¥36.0 billion.
