Background
He joined Minebea in December 1988 and became a Director that same month. Joining the board at the same time as joining the company, he advanced to Managing Director in December 1992 and Senior Managing Director in December 1994. He spent 15 years as Senior Managing Director and became Representative Director, President and Executive Officer in April 2009. It took 20 years and four months from joining to the presidency.
Selection
His predecessor was Takayuki Yamagishi, and the change took place in April 2009. In the fiscal year ended March 2009, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥256.1 billion, operating income ¥13.4 billion and net income ¥2.4 billion, down from ¥334.4 billion, ¥30.8 billion and ¥16.3 billion the year before. Right after this drop in profit, a man who had been Senior Managing Director for 15 years moved up to president.
Initiatives
In 2017 the company integrated with Mitsumi Electric, adding analog semiconductors and motors to a bearing-centered portfolio. It then continued acquiring U-Shin, ABLIC, Honda Lock and Hitachi Power Devices, lining up eight core businesses it calls its "eight spears." Consolidated net sales grew from ¥256.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2009, before he took office, to ¥1,292.2 billion in FY ended March 2023, his final year, and employees from 48,443 to 87,752.
