Background
He is a career insider who joined Amano in April 1982. He became an Executive Officer in April 2013 and from April 2014 to April 2016 also served as Representative Director and President of subsidiary Amano Management Service. In April 2016 he became Executive Officer in charge of overall business, and the following June, in 2017, Representative Director and President.
Selection
In June 2017 he succeeded Izumi Nakajima as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2017, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥120.1 billion, operating income ¥13.2 billion and net income ¥9.2 billion, all the highest of Nakajima's six years. He went straight from Executive Officer to Representative Director and President without serving as a Director. The appointment appears to have skipped the board on the strength of his two-year record running a subsidiary.
Initiatives
After he took office, sales rose year after year through the fiscal year ended March 2020, when consolidated net sales were ¥133.1 billion and operating income ¥16.2 billion. In FY ended March 2021, sales fell to ¥113.6 billion and operating income to ¥9.9 billion. They recovered to ¥118.4 billion and ¥12.9 billion in FY ended March 2022, and in FY ended March 2023, his final year, net sales were ¥132.8 billion, operating income ¥15.8 billion and net income ¥11.3 billion, matching the level of FY ended March 2020.
