Background

He founded Matsubara Sangyo in Kyoto in April 1967. He became Representative Director and President of Daicho Co., Ltd. in February 1976 and, through a merger in May 1982, Representative Director and President of AIFUL. He served as President for 44 years, until stepping back to Representative Director and Chairman in June 2020. A founder who never worked for another company, he only ever served as president of companies he started himself.

Selection

In February 1976, nine years after founding Matsubara Sangyo in April 1967, he became Representative Director and President of Daicho Co., Ltd., its first president with no predecessor. In May 1982 he moved through a merger to become Representative Director and President of AIFUL. The annual securities reports do not go back far enough to show how he came to be president after the founding or how large the business was when he took office.

Initiatives

The company posted an ordinary loss of ¥163.1 billion and a net loss of ¥411.2 billion in FY ended March 2007, and an ordinary loss of ¥264.2 billion and a net loss of ¥295.1 billion in FY ended March 2010. In 2009 it applied for turnaround ADR, rebuilding as an independent company without resorting to corporate reorganization proceedings. From June 2011 he also served as Representative Director and Chairman of Life Card. In his final year, FY ended March 2020, consolidated net sales were ¥127.0 billion and ordinary profit ¥1.7 billion, and that June he handed the presidency to Mitsuhide Fukuda.
