Background
He graduated from Nagoya Higher Commercial School in 1926 and joined Daido Steel that year. He became a Director in 1945 and, in 1950, when Shin-Daido Steel was launched in a split under the Enterprise Reconstruction and Reorganization Law, a Senior Managing Director. A career employee, he spent the 32 years from joining to becoming President at one company. Born in Kagawa Prefecture, he studied in Nagoya and joined a Nagoya steelmaker.
Selection
He became Representative Director and President in 1958, succeeding Shinji Satomura, eight years after becoming Senior Managing Director at the 1950 split. In June 1955 the shareholder base was led by the Industrial Bank of Japan, followed by trust banks and securities firms, but by December 1960 it was Fuji Iron & Steel at 5.0%, the Industrial Bank of Japan at 5.0% and Nissan Motor at 4.8%, with steel and automotive customers moving to the top.
Initiatives
During his tenure the Chita plant began operating in May 1963. The company had merged with Tokyo Seikosho in August 1957, the year before he took office, and expanded its production base further by merging with Kanto Seiko in July 1964. Net sales grew from ¥89.1 billion in FY ended June 1971 to ¥99.7 billion in FY ended June 1973, when ordinary profit was ¥3.1 billion. He also took on posts in the local business community, becoming vice chairman of the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1962 and chairman of the Aichi Employers' Association in 1971.
