Background

He joined MARUWA in March 2001, became CEO of the Components Company in April 2012 and a Director (business strategy) in June 2016, and was appointed Representative Director, President and CEO in April 2022. He is the eldest son of Chairman Makoto Kanbe. He personally owns 16,620 shares, far short of Makoto Kanbe's 300,000. The founding family's stake is concentrated in Kanbe Art Co., Ltd., where Makoto Kanbe has been Representative Director and President since November 1999; it is the largest shareholder with 29.57%.

Selection

In April 2022 he became Representative Director, President and CEO, succeeding Makoto Kanbe, who had been President for 30 years since June 1992. That same April, MARUWA absorbed MARUWA CERAMIC Co., Ltd. and MARUWA QUARTZ Co., Ltd., and moved from the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange to the Prime Market and from the First Section of the Nagoya Stock Exchange to the Premier Market. In the fiscal year just before, ended March 2022, consolidated net sales were ¥54.3 billion and operating profit ¥18.2 billion, up from ¥41.4 billion and ¥10.2 billion the year before. Succession passed to a Director with 21 years at the company in a month that saw both the merger of operating companies and the shift in market segments.

Initiatives

In May 2023 the company opened the Seto plant in Hatanaka-cho, Seto, Aichi Prefecture. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥54.3 billion in FY ended March 2022 to ¥71.8 billion in FY ended March 2025, operating profit from ¥18.2 billion to ¥26.9 billion and net income from ¥13.4 billion to ¥19.2 billion. In FY ended March 2026 net sales rose above the prior year to ¥74.5 billion, but operating profit fell ¥1.9 billion to ¥25.0 billion. In each of his four years in office, net sales exceeded those of the year before.
