Background

He joined NGK Spark Plug in April 1993, became head of the engineering headquarters of the Sensor division in June 2017 and deputy division head in October 2018. He became an Executive Officer in April 2019, Senior Executive Officer in April 2020 and Director and Senior Executive Officer in June 2025, and in April 2026 was appointed Representative Director, President and Executive Officer. Like his predecessor Takeshi Kawai, he is a career employee from the engineering side of the sensor business.

Selection

In April 2026 he succeeded Takeshi Kawai as President. He had joined the board only the previous June, in 2025, giving him ten months' experience as a Director. In the fiscal year before he took over, ended March 2025, consolidated net sales were ¥652.9 billion and operating profit ¥129.7 billion, up from ¥614.4 billion and ¥107.6 billion the year before. The handover came while results were growing, and the appointment appears intended to carry forward the business portfolio his predecessor had reshaped.
