Background
A career employee who joined in April 1976, he became an Executive Officer 29 years later, in April 2005. He became Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2006 and President three years after that, 33 years after joining. He joined in 1976, before Konica and Minolta integrated in August 2003, making him a president drawn from officers who had been there since before the integration.

In April 2009 he became President, succeeding Yoshikatsu Ota. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2009, revenue and operating income had fallen from ¥1,071.5 billion and ¥119.6 billion the year before to ¥947.8 billion and ¥56.3 billion, and net income from ¥68.8 billion to ¥15.1 billion. He was promoted from Director and Managing Executive Officer during the profit decline after the Lehman shock.
Initiatives
In April 2013 the holding company Konica Minolta Holdings merged with its operating companies and changed its name to Konica Minolta. Results fell to revenue of ¥804.4 billion and operating income of ¥44.0 billion in his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2010, bottomed at revenue of ¥767.8 billion in FY ended March 2012, and recovered to ¥943.7 billion and ¥58.1 billion in FY ended March 2014, his final year. Consolidated employees increased from 36,875 to 40,401.
