Background

He joined Nippon Educational Television (now TV Asahi) in April 1967, became head of the Public Relations Bureau in June 1997, and from December 1998 was seconded to BS Asahi as Managing Director. He left BS Asahi in April 2002, became an adviser to Toei Animation that May and Senior Managing Director in June, in charge of the Planning and Sales, Licensing and Online Distribution departments. His career summary shows no production experience; after public relations at a broadcaster and management of a satellite broadcaster, he was brought in as the officer for licensing and distribution.

He joined as an adviser in May 2002, became Senior Managing Director the following June, and Representative Director and President 13 months later, in June 2003. Kozo Morishita, Director and Executive Vice President on the same officer list for the fiscal year ended March 2011, joined in June 1970 and became a Director in June 2004, 34 years after joining. Toei held 33.57% and TV Asahi 15.07% of the shares, and TV Asahi became an other affiliated company after acquiring additional shares in May 2007. Takahashi held only 4,000 shares.

Initiatives

After he became President, the company set up TOEI ANIMATION INCORPORATED in Los Angeles in March 2004 and TOEI ANIMATION EUROPE S.A.S. in Paris that December, and in December 2008 made TOEI ANIMATION ENTERPRISES LTD. in Hong Kong a wholly owned subsidiary. The TV series Futari wa Pretty Cure began airing in February 2004, and that December the company listed on the JASDAQ Securities Exchange. Consolidated revenue went from ¥20.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2007 to ¥26.6 billion in FY ended March 2011, and employees from 505 to 528.
