Background

He became a Director in December 1980, starting out in the family's leisure facility business. In September 1994 the company absorbed the former Round One Corporation, founded in 1993, changed its name from Sugino Kosan to Round One, and he became Representative Director and President. Among major shareholders in the fiscal year ended March 2026 he is the largest, holding 22.71%, a founder with capital behind him.

Selection

He became the first Representative Director and President at the time of the name change in September 1994, with no predecessor. He had been involved in management as a Director since December 1980, giving him nearly 14 years of hands-on experience before becoming President. With the move to a holding company structure in April 2024 he became Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer, and has served as President for more than 30 years.

Initiatives

In July 2004 the company opened the multi-purpose leisure facility Spo-Cha at its Kyoto Fushimi store, turning bowling alleys into multi-purpose entertainment facilities. In August 2010 it opened its first U.S. store, taking the format of opening inside shopping malls overseas. It opened its first store in China in May 2021 and moved to a holding company structure in April 2024. Consolidated revenue grew from ¥89.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2012 to ¥177.1 billion in FY ended March 2025. During the pandemic, in FY ended March 2021, revenue fell to ¥61.0 billion with an operating loss of ¥19.3 billion.
