Background

He became a postdoctoral fellow at Dartmouth Medical School in August 2003, then moved to the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo as a project associate professor in April 2004 and to the University of Tokyo's Center for Collaborative Research as a visiting associate professor in January 2005. He joined PeptiDream in January 2007, becoming Director in August 2008, Director and head of R&D in May 2012, and Managing Director and head of R&D in September 2012. As one of the founding members he served as CSO, overseeing the establishment of the core technology of the PDPS drug discovery platform and the R&D programs with pharmaceutical companies. He also had an equity stake, ranking sixth among major shareholders with 4.61% in the fiscal year ended June 2016.

Education: Dartmouth Medical School, Graduate School, Biochemistry, Doctoral Program (2003)

Selection

In September 2017 he became President, succeeding founder and Chairman Kiichi Kubota. PeptiDream was founded in July 2006 by University of Tokyo professor Hiroaki Suga and Kubota, and in the fiscal year ended June 2016 the founding members dominated the top shareholders, with Kubota at 10.09%, Suga at 8.53% and Yu Murakami at 6.81%. In FY ended June 2016, before he took office, revenue was ¥4.3 billion and operating income ¥2.5 billion, up from revenue of ¥2.5 billion the year before. PDPS licensing and joint research were the main sources of income, and the head of the R&D department that built that technology took over.

Initiatives

In March 2022 the company acquired the radiopharmaceutical business of FUJIFILM Toyama Chemical, making PDRadiopharma Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary. This gave it a two-segment structure of drug discovery and development and radiopharmaceuticals. Consolidated revenue rose from ¥9.4 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2021 to ¥26.9 billion in FY ended December 2022, reaching revenue of ¥46.7 billion and operating income of ¥21.1 billion in FY ended December 2024. In FY ended December 2025, revenue was ¥18.5 billion with an operating loss of ¥5.0 billion.
