Background
He joined Nippon Sanso in April 1981. He served as Executive Vice President of Matheson Tri-Gas in the US from July 2002 and General Manager of the Semiconductor Gas Division from April 2006. Matheson Tri-Gas, the US base, was formed through a merger in July 1999 and built on a specialty gas business acquired in March 1983. In June 2014 he moved to Nissan Tanaka, becoming Senior Managing Director in June 2016 and Representative Director and President in June 2017. In June 2020 he returned to the parent company as Director and Executive Vice President.
Selection
In June 2021 he became Representative Director, President and CEO, succeeding Yujiro Ichihara. The change came right after the company moved to a holding company structure in October 2020 and changed its name to Nippon Sanso Holdings. In the fiscal year ended March 2021, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue was ¥818.2 billion and operating income ¥88.8 billion, down from ¥850.2 billion and ¥93.9 billion the previous year. His background in semiconductor gases and the US business appears to have been put to use in the early running of the holding company.
Initiatives
In September 2022 the company established Kimitsu Sanso Center as a joint venture with Nippon Steel. In November 2024 it acquired the plant engineering company Polaris, and in December 2024 it acquired the LP gas sales business of Wesfarmers' Kleenheat Gas. Consolidated revenue grew from ¥818.2 billion in the year before he took office to ¥1,359.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026, operating income from ¥88.8 billion to ¥197.9 billion, and net income from ¥55.2 billion to ¥123.9 billion.
