Background
Toru Kuwano joined Toyo Information Systems in April 1976 and became a Director of that company in June 2000. He built his executive career in business for financial institutions, serving as Senior Managing Director, head of the Financial and Card Business Division and General Manager of Card Business Department 1 from April 2008, and as Representative Director, Executive Vice President and head of the Financial Business Division from April 2010. In April 2011, 35 years after joining, he became Representative Director and President of that company, and from April 2013 also served as Representative Director, Chairman and President.
Selection
The holding company IT Holdings was established in April 2008 through a joint share transfer by TIS and INTEC Holdings, and listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Toru Kuwano joined the IT Holdings board in June 2013 and became Representative Director and President in June 2016. The following month IT Holdings absorbed its wholly owned subsidiary TIS, becoming an operating holding company, and changed its name to TIS Inc. The choice put the chairman and president of the operating company in charge of the holding company that would carry on his own company's name after the merger.
Initiatives
With the July 2016 merger, TIS Inc. became an operating holding company, and Toru Kuwano also took charge of the Internal Audit Department. In May 2017 the company drew up a group vision defining the company it aimed to be in 2026 as "Create Exciting Future." Consolidated net sales grew from ¥382.7 billion in the FY ended March 2016 to ¥443.7 billion in the FY ended March 2020, and operating income from ¥24.4 billion to ¥44.8 billion. In June 2018 Toru Kuwano became Representative Director, Chairman and President.
