Background

He joined Tsuruha in April 1998. In May 2011 he became Director, Executive Officer and head of Hokkaido Store Operations, overseeing store operations in Hokkaido; in August 2014 he became Representative Director and President of Tsuruha and Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer of Tsuruha Holdings, and in August 2018 rose to Representative Director and Senior Managing Director of the holding company. It was 22 years from joining to the holding company presidency, and his entire career was within the group.

Selection

In June 2020 he succeeded Masashi Horikawa as Representative Director and President. In the FY ended May 2020, the year before he took office, consolidated sales were ¥841.0 billion, operating income ¥45.0 billion and net income ¥27.9 billion, continuing a run of higher sales and profits. He had come up through store operations, from head of Hokkaido Store Operations to Representative Director and Senior Managing Director of the holding company, and had served six years as President of the operating company Tsuruha from August 2014.

Initiatives

Consolidated sales grew to ¥919.3 billion in the FY ended May 2021, then dipped once to ¥915.7 billion with operating income of ¥40.6 billion in the FY ended May 2022. They recovered to ¥970.1 billion in the FY ended May 2023 and topped ¥1 trillion for the first time at ¥1,027.5 billion in the FY ended May 2024. In the FY ended February 2026, sales expanded to ¥1,450.6 billion, operating income ¥63.0 billion and net income ¥42.7 billion. Among major shareholders that period, Aeon held 50.33% and became the parent company, and the Welcia Holdings Employee Stock Ownership Association ranked sixth with 1.11%.
