Background

He joined Nippon Chemiphar in April 1970 and moved to Matsumotokiyoshi in November 1975. He rose to the board through pharmaceutical and cosmetics sales: General Manager of Sales in the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Division in November 1989, Director and General Manager of Sales in that division in June 1995, Managing Director in July 1997 and Senior Managing Director in April 2002. When the holding company was set up in October 2007 he became Senior Managing Director of Matsumotokiyoshi Holdings, and in April 2008 Director and Executive Vice President in charge of the operating companies. The officers section of the annual securities report for the FY ended March 2010 lists his shareholding as 20,200 shares.

Education: Tokyo University of Science, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (1970)

Selection

In April 2009 he moved from Director and Executive Vice President in charge of the operating companies to Representative Director, President and COO. In the same month his predecessor Namio Matsumoto became Representative Director, Chairman and CEO, dividing the roles so that Matsumoto held the CEO post and Yoshida the COO post. Matsumoto, the son of founder Kiyoshi Matsumoto, held 5,914,200 shares in the FY ended March 2010 against Yoshida's 20,200, separating the side that owned the capital from the side that ran operations. Among major shareholders in the FY ended March 2008, Namio Matsumoto held 11.03% and Tetsuo Matsumoto 10.48%.

Initiatives

Consolidated net sales rose from ¥392.3 billion in the FY ended March 2009, before he took office, to ¥428.2 billion in the FY ended March 2011, while operating income fell from ¥16.3 billion to ¥15.5 billion. In August 2009 the company signed a basic business alliance agreement with Lawson, and in December that year acquired 56.37% of Midori Yakuhin, a Kagoshima-based chain, through a tender offer. In January 2010 it made Nakajima Family Pharmacy a wholly owned subsidiary, in April that year raised its stake in Love Drugs to 90.8%, and in March 2011 agreed with Kirindo on joint development of private brand products.
