Background
He joined Kikkoman in April 1981, became Executive Officer in June 2008 and Managing Executive Officer in June 2011. He advanced to Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2015 and Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2019, also serving as Representative Director and President of the domestic operating company Kikkoman Food Products. He became president 40 years after joining.
Selection
In June 2021 he succeeded Noriaki Horikiri as Representative Director, President and COO. In the fiscal year ended March 2021, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥468.1 billion and operating income ¥41.7 billion; sales were nearly flat from ¥468.6 billion the previous year, while profit rose from ¥34.9 billion. The change came two years after he became Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2019, right after he had run the domestic business as president of Kikkoman Food Products. The appointment appears to have entrusted him with the core domestic business and then raised him to president of the parent two years later.
Initiatives
Consolidated net sales, ¥468.1 billion in the year before he took office, grew to ¥745.5 billion in the FY ended March 2026. Operating income rose from ¥41.7 billion to ¥75.9 billion and net income from ¥28.8 billion to ¥61.6 billion. Over five years, net sales grew 1.6-fold and operating income 1.8-fold.
