He is a career employee who joined Calbee in March 1979. He became an Executive Officer in July 2001, Director and Executive Officer in June 2004 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2005. It took 22 years from joining to Executive Officer, and four years from Managing Executive Officer to President. In the fiscal year ended March 2009, the year before he took office, ordinary profit was ¥4.5 billion and net income ¥2.5 billion on consolidated sales of ¥137.4 billion, an ordinary margin of only 3.3%. Outside capital came in around the time he took office: among major shareholders in the fiscal year ended March 2011, the general incorporated association Miki no Kai ranked first with 22.06% and FRITO LAY GLOBAL INVESTMENTS B.V. second with 20.99%. The change brought in outside capital while the company was still burdened by low margins and promoted the career employee Ito to President.

Operating profit rose for seven straight years from ¥9.5 billion in FY ended March 2010 to ¥28.8 billion in FY ended March 2017. Sales then stayed in a range from the ¥240 billion level to the ¥280 billion level, and operating profit fell to ¥22.2 billion in FY ended March 2023. Growth was concentrated in the first eight years, while the last six were a period in which neither scale nor profit moved.
