Background

At Kyushu Electric Power he served as Director and Managing Executive Officer from June 2012 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President from June 2014. In June 2018 he moved to Kyudenko as Chairman, and in June 2020 became Representative Director and President. Kyudenko's largest shareholder is Kyushu Electric, with a 26.85% stake as of the fiscal year ended March 2006. The appointment brought in an officer from the largest shareholder and placed him at the top after two years as Chairman.

Education: Keio University, Faculty of Commerce (1976)

Selection

In June 2020 he succeeded Matsuji Nishimura as President, two years after being brought in as Chairman in June 2018, without having held an executive post inside the company. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales rose to ¥428.9 billion from ¥408.1 billion the previous year, while operating profit dipped slightly from ¥36.7 billion to ¥36.0 billion. It was not a turnaround but a change that simply elevated the Chairman brought in from the largest shareholder to the top.

Initiatives

After he took office, consolidated net sales fell for two straight years, to ¥391.9 billion in FY ended March 2021 and ¥376.6 billion in FY ended March 2022, before recovering to ¥395.8 billion in FY ended March 2023. Operating profit fell from ¥36.0 billion in the year before he took office to ¥32.1 billion, while net income was essentially unchanged, from ¥26.2 billion to ¥26.3 billion. In April 2022 his title was changed to Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer.
