Background
He joined Sumitomo Forestry in April 1985 and rose to Executive Officer in June 2010 and Managing Executive Officer in April 2011. He became a Director in June 2014 and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2018, and in April 2020, in his 35th year with the company, became Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer. He took office after ten years as an Executive Officer and six as a Director, and has never worked anywhere other than Sumitomo Forestry.

In April 2020 he succeeded Akira Ichikawa as Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer, a promotion after two years as Senior Managing Executive Officer from April 2018. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,104.1 billion, operating profit ¥51.4 billion and net income ¥27.9 billion; over his predecessor's ten years, net sales had risen from ¥797.5 billion to over ¥1 trillion.
Initiatives
In October 2022 the company established a forest asset management company in the United States and launched a forest fund of about ¥100 billion, raising ¥60.0 billion in investment by September 2023. He set as business goals increasing forests' CO2 absorption by running the timber value chain "Wood Cycle" and locking in carbon over the long term through wooden buildings. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥1,385.9 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2021 to ¥2,267.6 billion in FY ended December 2025, and operating profit from ¥113.7 billion to ¥168.7 billion.
