Unlike the founding family, he had no capital backing. Selection

In February 2016 he took over the presidency from founder Akio Nitori. Nitori had been President for 38 years since May 1978 and became Representative Director and Chairman after the change. In the fiscal year ended February 2015, the year before he took over, consolidated net sales were ¥417.2 billion and operating income ¥66.3 billion, above the previous year's ¥387.6 billion and ¥63.1 billion. It was not a change prompted by weaker results but a generational handover in which the founder became Chairman and passed on execution.

Initiatives

Consolidated net sales grew from ¥458.1 billion in the FY ended February 2016, his first year, to ¥948.0 billion in the FY ended March 2023, and operating income from ¥73.0 billion to ¥140.1 billion. In 2021 the company added Shimachu as a subsidiary, broadening its range from furniture to home centers. From 2023 it changed its fiscal year-end from February to March. In the FY ended March 2025, net sales were ¥928.9 billion and operating income ¥117.7 billion, below the profit level of the FY ended March 2023.
