Selection

At the founding in March 1972 he was Senior Managing Director, and became Representative Director and President six years later in May 1978. Rather than taking over from a predecessor, the founder simply held full control of management. He then served as President for 38 years until stepping back to Representative Director and Chairman in February 2016. In the FY ended February 2016, the year of the change, consolidated net sales were ¥458.1 billion and operating income ¥73.0 billion, both above the previous year.

Initiatives

Consolidated net sales grew from ¥63.2 billion in the FY ended February 2001 to ¥458.1 billion in the FY ended February 2016, his final year. Operating income also rose from ¥18.2 billion in the FY ended February 2006 to ¥73.0 billion. In August 2010 the company moved to a holding company structure through a company split, changing its name to Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd. At the same time he became Representative Director and President of the operating company Nitori, moving to its Chairman in May 2014. In February 2016 he handed the presidency of the holding company to Toshiyuki Shirai.
