Background

He joined ITOCHU Corporation in April 1981 and was assigned to the electrical plant department. He became general manager of the Plant Project Business Promotion Department in April 2007 and general manager of the business department in July 2008. In April 2011, as a Managing Executive Officer, he became President of ITOCHU International Inc. He rose to Representative Director, Managing Executive Officer and President of the Metals Company in June 2014, and Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2016.

Education: Keio University, Faculty of Economics (1981)

Selection

In June 2018 he moved to SKY Perfect JSAT as Representative Director and Executive Vice President, and ten months later, in April 2019, succeeded Shinji Takada as President. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2019, revenue was ¥164.0 billion and operating profit ¥15.3 billion, down from ¥192.9 billion and ¥24.4 billion two years earlier. The largest shareholder was ITOCHU Fuji Partners, holding 27.01% at the end of the FY ended March 2026. The appointment appears to have entrusted a business with declining profits to an Executive Vice President brought in from the largest shareholder's side.

Initiatives

Revenue, ¥164.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2019, fell to ¥127.6 billion in the FY ended March 2026. Over the same period operating profit rose from ¥15.3 billion to ¥35.3 billion and net income from ¥9.7 billion to ¥23.3 billion. Even in the FY ended March 2021 and FY ended March 2022, spanning the pandemic, the company secured operating profit of ¥19.2 billion and ¥18.9 billion. Seven years of management that pursued profitability rather than revenue scale appear to have continued.
