Background
He joined Goldwin in April 1982 and became General Manager of The North Face Division in April 2000. He advanced to Executive Officer in June 2004 and Director and Executive Officer in June 2005, also overseeing planning for the Coleman Division. He became Director, Senior Managing Executive Officer and head of business management in April 2012, and Director and Executive Vice President in April 2017, joining top management from the business side.
Selection
In April 2020 he succeeded Akio Nishida as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer. Nishida, President for 20 years from June 2000, became Representative Director and Chairman that month. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥97.9 billion and operating profit ¥17.5 billion, up from ¥84.9 billion and ¥11.9 billion the year before. The change appears to have rewarded his record of running The North Face Division since 2000 and building it into the main earner.
Initiatives
In April 2020, the month he took office, the company absorbed Goldwin Technical Center, which had handled production. In April 2022 it also merged Canterbury of New Zealand Japan into the parent, and that month moved to the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It set up local subsidiaries in quick succession in Beijing in September 2021, Seoul in October 2024 and London in May 2025. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥97.9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2020 to ¥137.5 billion in the FY ended March 2026.
