Background

He joined Inabata & Co. in January 1989 and became a Director six years later, in June 1995. He advanced to Managing Director in June 1997, Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2003 and Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2005, and became Representative Director, President and Executive Officer in December that year, 16 years after joining. In the fiscal year ended March 2006, just after he took office, the largest shareholder was Sumitomo Chemical with 22.09%.

Selection

In December 2005 he was promoted from Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer to Representative Director, President and Executive Officer. It came eight months after he became Senior Managing Executive Officer in April, a mid-year change of president rather than at the June shareholders' meeting. In the fiscal year ended March 2006, his first, non-consolidated sales were ¥423.4 billion, operating profit ¥6.3 billion and net income ¥4.6 billion. That year's major shareholders were Sumitomo Chemical at 22.09%, followed by trust banks and foreign corporations, with Katsuo Inabata ninth at 1.82%.

Initiatives

During his tenure consolidated net sales grew from ¥464.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2012 to ¥832.7 billion in the FY ended March 2026, and operating profit from ¥7.6 billion to ¥26.2 billion. Sales of ¥634.7 billion in the FY ended March 2019 fell to ¥577.6 billion in the FY ended March 2021, then recovered to ¥681.0 billion in the FY ended March 2022. Operating profit has stayed in the ¥20 billion range since the FY ended March 2022. Net income also rose from ¥6.3 billion in the FY ended March 2012 to ¥20.6 billion in the FY ended March 2026.
