Background

He joined in April 1981, became an Executive Officer in April 2005 and a Managing Executive Officer in April 2007. He became a Director in June 2011, and just under three years later, in April 2014, became Representative Director and President. It took him 33 years from joining to become President. Two years after taking office, in April 2016, he also became Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He stepped down as President in June 2019 to become Representative Director and Chairman, and since June 2021 has served as an outside director of Kyocera.

His predecessor was Masahiro Hashimoto. In the fiscal year ended March 2014, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥235.9 billion, operating income ¥8.9 billion and net income ¥5.4 billion; in the FY ended March 2013 before that, the company was in the red with net sales of ¥199.7 billion, an operating loss of ¥4.8 billion and a net loss of ¥11.3 billion. The change came just after the return from losses to profit, and he was appointed just under three years after joining the board.

Initiatives

Over his five fiscal years, consolidated net sales grew from ¥237.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2015 to ¥364.2 billion in the FY ended March 2019. Operating income over the same period rose from ¥17.2 billion to ¥29.6 billion, peaking at ¥42.7 billion in the FY ended March 2018. Consolidated employees increased by 1,000, from 5,082 to 6,099. In the FY ended March 2020, just after he stepped down, net sales fell to ¥323.2 billion and operating income to ¥12.6 billion.
