Background

He left his post as head of personnel at Matsushita Electric Industrial in December 1946 and from January 1947 served as President of Kansai Suisan Denki. In May 1948 he joined Sanyo Electric Works, founded by his elder brother Toshio Iue. He became Director and head of general affairs when the company was incorporated in April 1950, Senior Managing Director in July 1953 and Executive Vice President in July 1961. At both Matsushita and Sanyo he handled personnel and general affairs, rising to management from administration rather than manufacturing or sales.

Selection

In January 1968 Toshio Iue, then President, withdrew to Chairman, and Yuro rose from Executive Vice President to President. The same month his younger brother Kaoru Iue moved up from Senior Managing Director to Executive Vice President, so the three brothers held the posts of Chairman, President and Executive Vice President. This was a period when domestic demand for the three sacred treasures of household appliances had run its course after the 1965 securities slump and sales growth had stalled. With the founder moving to Chairman while still alive, it appears to have been a rotation within the family.

Initiatives

In April 1969 he built the Gifu plant as a mass-production base for color TVs, planning capacity of 20,000 units a month. Delays in land acquisition pushed completion back about a year. Founder Toshio Iue died in July 1969, and family management by the Iue family carried on thereafter. In January 1971 he withdrew to Chairman, handing the presidency to his brother Kaoru Iue. His three years in office were a short period spanning the expansion of North American exports and the founder's death.
