Background
A career employee, he joined Makita in March 1971 and rose to the board through planning and administration rather than production or sales. He became Director and head of the Corporate Planning Office in May 1984 and Managing Director and head of the Administration Headquarters in July 1987. He became President five years after joining the board and 18 years after joining the company. His presidency lasted 24 years, from May 1989 to June 2013, after which he became Representative Director and Chairman.

In May 1989 he became President from the post of Managing Director and head of the Administration Headquarters, skipping Senior Managing Director to go straight to Representative Director and President. In 1991, two years after he became President, the company changed its name to Makita Corporation. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥166.2 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2002 to ¥342.6 billion in the FY ended March 2008, with operating income reaching ¥67.0 billion. After the financial crisis, in the FY ended March 2010, sales fell to ¥245.8 billion and operating income to ¥30.4 billion. In the FY ended March 2013, his final year, sales had recovered to ¥309.6 billion and net income to ¥31.1 billion.
