He joined Fujikura in April 1982. He became an Executive Officer 31 years later, in April 2013, and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2015. Ten months after joining the board, in April 2016, he rose to President. A career employee, he spent the 34 years from joining to becoming President at this one company.

In April 2016 he succeeded Yoichi Nagahama as President. In the fiscal year before he took over, ended March 2016, consolidated net sales were ¥678.5 billion and operating profit ¥32.6 billion, the second straight year of higher operating profit from ¥20.3 billion in FY ended March 2014. In his first year, FY ended March 2017, operating profit rose to ¥34.2 billion despite lower sales. The change was not a response to deteriorating results.

Net income fell to ¥1.4 billion in FY ended March 2019, and FY ended March 2020 brought operating profit of ¥3.3 billion and a net loss of ¥38.5 billion. Consolidated employees fell by 5,988, from 58,422 in FY ended March 2018 to 52,434 in FY ended March 2022. In his final year, FY ended March 2022, results recovered to operating profit of ¥38.3 billion and net income of ¥39.1 billion, and in April 2022 he handed the presidency to Naoki Okada.
