Background
He joined Kobe Steel in April 1985 and has never moved to another company. He became an Executive Officer 30 years later, in April 2015. He became Managing Executive Officer in April 2017, Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2018, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer that June, and Director and Executive Vice President in April 2023. He became President in his 39th year with the company.

In April 2024 he succeeded Mitsugi Yamaguchi as President. His path, Executive Officer 30 years after joining and President one year after becoming Executive Vice President, closely mirrors that of his predecessor. In FY ended March 2024, just before he took over, consolidated operating profit doubled to ¥186.6 billion from ¥86.4 billion, and net income rose from ¥72.5 billion to ¥109.5 billion. He took over not in the middle of a turnaround but right after record profits.

In his first year, FY ended March 2025, consolidated net sales were ¥2,555.0 billion and net income ¥120.1 billion, above the prior year's ¥109.5 billion. In FY ended March 2026 net sales were ¥2,436.6 billion, operating profit ¥129.9 billion and net income ¥93.7 billion, all down from the year before. On taking office he set a goal of becoming a business that stably secures consolidated net sales of ¥3 trillion, consolidated ordinary profit of ¥200 billion and ROIC of 8% by 2030.
