He joined TOTO in April 1984 and became an Executive Officer 26 years later, in April 2010. He then moved up a rank every two years: Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2012, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2014, and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in April 2016. It took him 36 years from joining to become President. On stepping down as President in April 2025, he became Representative Director and Chairman.

The handover came amid a run of declining profits.

Operating profit recovered to ¥52.2 billion in FY ended March 2022, then fell to ¥49.1 billion in FY ended March 2023 and ¥42.8 billion in FY ended March 2024, before coming in at ¥48.5 billion in FY ended March 2025. Net income in FY ended March 2025 was ¥12.1 billion, a third of the ¥37.1 billion of the prior year. The workforce fell from 33,800 in FY ended March 2021 to 33,386 in FY ended March 2024.
