Background
He joined Tokai Carbon in April 1972. He became Director and Executive Officer in March 2006, and after serving as Managing Executive Officer and Senior Managing Executive Officer, became Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in March 2013 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in March 2014. A career employee, he spent 42 years with the company before becoming President.

Initiatives
In 2017 he acquired SGL GE of the United States, building a three-region graphite electrode network spanning Asia, North America and Europe. In FY ended December 2018, the year after the acquisition, consolidated net sales jumped to ¥231.3 billion and operating profit to ¥73.1 billion, from ¥106.2 billion and ¥11.1 billion the year before. The company had booked a net loss of ¥7.9 billion in FY ended December 2016, the year after he took office, but consolidated net sales grew to ¥262.0 billion by FY ended December 2019.
