Background

He joined The Bank of Yokohama in April 1976 and, after Ricoh, joined Otsuka Corporation in November 1981. He became a Director in March 1992, Senior Managing Director in March 1994, Director and Executive Vice President in March 1995, and President in August 2001. His shareholding is also substantial. Among the top ten major shareholders in the fiscal year ended December 2005, Yuji Otsuka ranked second with 8.28%, alongside other individuals Minoru Otsuka with 5.66%, Atsushi Otsuka with 3.64% and Terue Otsuka with 2.03%, with Otsuka Sobi at the top with 25.61%.

Education: Rikkyo University, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration (1976)

Selection

He moved to the top in August 2001 through a change of president. He took office 19 years and nine months after joining in November 1981 and six years and five months after becoming Director and Executive Vice President in March 1995. Even in the fiscal year ended December 2005, four years after he took office, Minoru Otsuka still held 5.66% and ranked fifth among major shareholders, so the handover to the next generation appears to have kept the founding side's stake intact.

Initiatives

During his tenure consolidated revenue grew 3.2 times, from ¥409.4 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2005 to ¥1,322.8 billion in FY ended December 2025. Operating income rose over the same period from ¥21.9 billion to ¥89.9 billion. After growing to ¥886.5 billion in FY ended December 2019, revenue fell to ¥836.3 billion in FY ended December 2020, then reached ¥977.4 billion in FY ended December 2023 and passed ¥1 trillion at ¥1,107.7 billion in FY ended December 2024.
