Background
He joined Sumitomo Bakelite in April 1989 and became head of the Information and Communication Materials Sales Unit in April 2017, an Executive Officer in April 2019 and Managing Executive Officer in April 2022. In April 2024 he became Senior Managing Executive Officer and concurrently head of the Materials Solutions Sales Unit, and joined the board in June of that year. Whereas his predecessor Kazuhiko Fujiwara came from bio and medical materials, he is a career employee who headed sales units.

In June 2025 he became Representative Director and President, succeeding Kazuhiko Fujiwara. He was appointed a year after joining the board in June 2024, in his 36th year with the company. In the fiscal year ended March 2025, the year before he took office, revenue grew to ¥304.8 billion, while operating income of ¥24.8 billion fell short of the previous year's ¥27.2 billion. In a year of falling operating income, the company appears to have made a former head of sales its President.
Initiatives
In the fiscal year ended March 2026, his first year, revenue was ¥319.9 billion, operating income ¥35.5 billion and net income attributable to owners of the parent ¥28.0 billion, with operating income up more than 40% from ¥24.8 billion the year before. In January 2026 the company signed a share transfer agreement with Kyocera for a newly established company that will take over part of Kyocera's chemical business (the share acquisition is scheduled for October 2026). One year in, it is too early to discuss results, and it is not yet clear how much this takeover will strengthen the encapsulant business.
