Background
He joined Sumitomo Bakelite in April 1980 and served as leader of the bio-products development project team, General Manager of the S-Bio Division and head of the High Performance Plastics Business Unit. He became an Executive Officer in June 2009, Managing Executive Officer in April 2013, a Director in June 2014 and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2016. A career employee, he rose not from the core semiconductor encapsulant business but from bio and medical materials.

Over his seven years, consolidated net sales grew from ¥211.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2018 to ¥304.8 billion in FY ended March 2025, and operating income from ¥18.6 billion to ¥24.8 billion. After falling to operating income of ¥10.3 billion in FY ended March 2020 during the pandemic, the company recovered to net sales of ¥263.1 billion and operating income of ¥24.9 billion in FY ended March 2022, and grew sales for three straight years after that. His tenure coincided with the work of building Vaupell of the US, acquired in 2014, and Kawasumi Laboratories into medical and mobility materials businesses to stand as core businesses alongside semiconductor encapsulants.
