Background
He joined Nippon Shokubai in April 1986. In April 2017 he became General Manager of the Superabsorbent Polymer Division, leading the superabsorbent polymer business. He became an Executive Officer in June 2018 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2020, and became President 36 years after joining.
Selection
In June 2022 he became President, succeeding Yujiro Goto. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the year before, consolidated revenue was ¥369.2 billion and operating income ¥29.1 billion, a recovery from FY ended March 2021, when the company posted an operating loss of ¥15.9 billion. The promotion came just five years after he became General Manager of the Superabsorbent Polymer Division, and the change appears to have gone to someone who knew the front line of the core product.
Initiatives
After he took office, consolidated revenue grew to ¥419.5 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2023 but fell to ¥392.0 billion in FY ended March 2024. Operating income also shrank from ¥23.5 billion in FY ended March 2023 to ¥16.6 billion in FY ended March 2024, and was ¥17.5 billion in FY ended March 2026. Consolidated revenue in FY ended March 2026 was ¥399.9 billion, only 8% above the ¥369.2 billion of the year before he took office.
