Background

Born in 1960, he joined Nomura Securities in April 1984 and rose to Executive Officer in April 2007, Managing Executive Officer in April 2009 and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2011. He became an Executive Officer of Nomura Holdings in April 2012, Representative Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of Nomura Securities in August that year, and its Director, Representative Executive Officer and Executive Vice President in April 2013. After 30 years at the securities firm, he moved to Nomura Real Estate Holdings in April 2014 with no real estate experience.

Selection

He joined as an Advisor in April 2014, became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June that year, and Representative Director and President in June 2015. His predecessor Kamezo Nakai had also joined Nomura Securities in 1974 and moved to the presidency of Nomura Real Estate Holdings in June 2011 after serving as President of Nomura Land and Building, so former executives of the securities parent held the holding company presidency for two successive terms. Net sales had grown from ¥532.0 billion in the FY ended March 2014 to ¥567.2 billion in the FY ended March 2015.

Initiatives

After taking office he opened overseas bases. The company set up local subsidiaries in Hong Kong in April 2016 and in Vietnam and Thailand in 2019, and in November 2018 acquired 75% of British real estate asset manager Lothbury, making it a consolidated subsidiary. At home, it made NREG Toshiba Building a wholly owned subsidiary in April 2020, and in April 2021 integrated the brokerage business previously run by two companies, Nomura Real Estate Development and Nomura Real Estate Urban Net. Net sales grew from ¥569.5 billion in the FY ended March 2016 to ¥654.7 billion in the FY ended March 2023, and operating income from ¥80.9 billion to ¥99.6 billion.
