Background
He joined Toshiba in 1985 and was posted to Toshiba Electronics UK from March 1991. He became general manager of memory application engineering in the memory division of the Semiconductor Company in April 2008 and chief engineer for memory application technology at the Semiconductor & Storage Products Company in June 2015. He became head of Kioxia's memory division in January 2021, Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2023, and Executive Vice President and Executive Officer of Kioxia Holdings in June 2024. Since the Toshiba Memory days he has been an executive searching, from the lab, for the next markets where memory demand will grow.
Selection
On January 30, 2026, Kioxia Holdings announced a change of president. Nobuo Hayasaka served as President and CEO until March 31, 2026, and Hiroo Ota became president on April 1. After the ordinary general meeting of shareholders that June, he became Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer. Following the first president Yasuo Naruke and Nobuo Hayasaka, he made it three presidents in a row who were engineers from Toshiba's memory technology side.
Initiatives
On July 8, 2026, after he took office, the Bain Capital side sold its last stake, exiting Kioxia's shareholder register eight years after the 2018 buyout. At the end of March 2026 the major shareholders were Toshiba with 17.59% and BCPE Pangea Cayman2, Ltd., formed by Bain to carry SK hynix's economic interest, with 14.17%, leaving Toshiba as the largest shareholder. At the Yokkaichi and Kitakami plants, joint development and production continue with Sandisk, which separated from Western Digital.
