Background
He joined Nikka Whisky in April 1984 and transferred to the Asahi Group in September 2002. He was Managing Director of Asahi Holdings (Australia) from October 2011 and its Group CEO from April 2014, running the Australian business on the ground. He advanced to Executive Officer in March 2016, Managing Director in March 2018, and Senior Managing Director and CFO in March 2020. He came in from a liquor manufacturer and built his career in overseas business and finance.

In March 2021 he succeeded Akiyoshi Koji as President and CEO. In the fiscal year ended December 2020, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue was ¥2,027.7 billion and operating income ¥135.2 billion, down from ¥2,089.0 billion and ¥201.4 billion the previous year. He was promoted from Senior Managing Director and CFO. The appointment appears to have chosen someone who had overseen overseas business and finance.

Consolidated revenue grew from ¥2,236.0 billion in the FY ended December 2021, his first year, to ¥2,939.4 billion in the FY ended December 2024, and operating income from ¥211.9 billion to ¥269.1 billion. Net income also rose from ¥153.5 billion to ¥192.0 billion. Headcount fell from 30,020 in the FY ended December 2021 to 28,639 in the FY ended December 2023. In March 2025 he became Representative Executive Officer, President and Group CEO, as the company shifted to a structure with executive officers.
