Background
He joined Sekisui House in April 1975. He became an Executive Officer in April 2004, in his 29th year with the company, then a Director in April 2006 and Senior Managing Executive Officer in May 2007. In April 2008, in his 33rd year, he became Representative Director, President and COO. It took him two years from Director to President, short compared with the eight years his predecessor Isamu Wada needed.
Selection
In April 2008 he succeeded Isamu Wada as Representative Director, President and COO, and Wada became Representative Director, Chairman and CEO. In the fiscal year ended January 2008, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,597.8 billion and operating profit ¥109.7 billion. In his second year, FY ended January 2010, the company posted a consolidated operating loss of ¥38.8 billion and a net loss of ¥29.2 billion. The appointment appears to have been a division of roles to face the recession, keeping the CEO role with the Chairman while entrusting execution to the President.
Initiatives
Consolidated net sales, which had fallen to ¥1,353.1 billion in FY ended January 2010, recovered to ¥2,159.3 billion, with operating profit of ¥195.5 billion, by his final year, FY ended January 2018. In March 2017 the company made the US single-family homebuilder Woodside Homes a wholly owned subsidiary, launching an overseas business that brought to the United States the housing design and production methods used in Japan.
