Selection
Taisei Corporation changed its name from Okura Doboku in January 1946, and in June 1949 its officers and employees acquired all the shares that had been under the control of the Holding Company Liquidation Commission, ending the founding family's control through shareholding. Kazue Kato served as President during the period when the company, under that structure, moved toward a public listing.
Initiatives
In September 1956, when doubling its capital from ¥300 million to ¥600 million, the company offered its shares on the Tokyo over-the-counter market. It was the first general contractor to go public, and shares offered at ¥80 immediately traded at ¥160. On September 9, 1957, it listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange with 12 million shares listed and 2,428 employees. In 1956 it won and began work on the fifth section of the Kurobe River No. 4 power station for a contract price of ¥2,301 million, and in October 1959 it also listed on the Osaka and Nagoya stock exchanges.
