Background
He joined Sundrug in March 1989 and came up through sales, becoming Executive Officer and General Manager of Sales Department II in April 2005 and Director and General Manager of Sales Department II in June 2008. He became Representative Director and Executive Vice President of discount store subsidiary Direx in December 2009 and its Representative Director and President in June 2014, running a business format separate from the parent before moving to the presidency. As of the FY ended March 2026, the largest shareholder was Iryu Shoji with 37.42%, Naoki Tada and Takashi Tada held a combined 4.55%, and Sadakata was not among the top ten.
Selection
In May 2019 he succeeded Kazuya Akao as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took over, consolidated net sales were ¥588.1 billion and operating income ¥35.2 billion; sales rose, but operating income fell from ¥36.1 billion the previous year. The company placed an executive who had led Direx for five years at the head of the parent, and he kept that post concurrently until moving to Direx's Chairman in June 2020. The appointment put both business formats under one person's command.
Initiatives
Over his seven fiscal years in office, consolidated net sales grew 1.43 times, from ¥588.1 billion in the FY ended March 2019 to ¥842.5 billion in the FY ended March 2026, without a single year below the previous one. Operating income rose from ¥35.2 billion to ¥46.8 billion, and net income from ¥23.9 billion to ¥31.4 billion. In April 2022 his title changed to Representative Director, President and CEO.
