Background

He joined Mitsubishi Corporation in April 1989 and was seconded to Princes in the United Kingdom in February 1994. In May 1999 he was brought onto the board of LIFE CORPORATION, advanced to Senior Managing Director in October 2001, and just before becoming President served as Senior Managing Director and head of the Sales Division. An outsider sent in by Mitsubishi Corporation, he spent the seven years between joining and becoming President on the sales side.

Education: Keio University, Faculty of Economics (1989)

Selection

In March 2006 he succeeded Nobutsugu Shimizu as Representative Director, President and COO. In the fiscal year ended February 2006, the year before he took office, non-consolidated net sales were ¥398.3 billion and operating profit ¥6.8 billion, an operating margin of 1.7%. That year's largest shareholder was Seishin Kosan with 20.14%, followed by his former employer Mitsubishi Corporation with 19.53%. It appears to have been an appointment in which the trading company supplying capital sent in a director and raised him to President over seven years.

Initiatives

Between the fiscal years ended February 2006 and February 2012, when results were reported on a non-consolidated basis, net sales grew from ¥398.3 billion to ¥503.1 billion. After the switch to consolidated reporting, net sales of ¥519.9 billion and operating profit of ¥7.4 billion in the FY ended February 2013 became ¥848.6 billion and ¥26.0 billion in the FY ended February 2026. In the FY ended February 2021, during the pandemic, operating profit was ¥27.4 billion and net income ¥17.8 billion, nearly double the prior year's ¥13.9 billion and ¥7.8 billion.
