Background
He joined Union Tool in February 1979 and became Managing Director two years later, in January 1981. In March of that year he became a director of MEGATOOL INC. (now U.S. UNION TOOL, INC.), in March 1985 a director of Union Tool's Taiwan subsidiary, and in March 1989 its Representative Director and President. In February 1988 he was assigned responsibility for general affairs, accounting and manufacturing along with heading the overseas operations department, and in December 1989 responsibility for technology development.
Selection
He became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in February 1992 and Representative Director and President in May 1996, 17 years after joining and four years after becoming Executive Vice President. In the year before, he had become a director of UNION TOOL EUROPE S.A. in April 1995 and of the Shanghai subsidiary in December that year, and had been in charge of the Corporate Planning Office since November. He moved to the presidency while still holding board seats at subsidiaries in Taiwan, the U.S., Europe and China.
Initiatives
In 1996, the year he took office, the company listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, moving to the First Section in 1998. Consolidated net sales grew to ¥24.2 billion and operating income to ¥6.7 billion in the fiscal year ended November 2005. In FY ended November 2009 sales fell to ¥16.4 billion and operating income to ¥0.5 billion, recovering to ¥18.8 billion and ¥2.6 billion in FY ended November 2010. He became Representative Director and Chairman in February 2014.
