Background
He joined Tokyo Steel in April 1993 and became a Director in June 2012, his 19th year. He became an Executive Officer in June 2019 and Managing Executive Officer in June 2021, and was named Representative Director, President and Executive Officer in June 2023. It took him 11 years from joining the board to become President. A career employee, he spent the 30 years since joining at this one company, with no outside management experience.

In the fiscal year before he took over, ended March 2023, net sales were ¥361.2 billion and operating profit ¥38.1 billion, a sharp two-year recovery from net sales of ¥141.4 billion and operating profit of ¥4.0 billion in FY ended March 2021. The handover came after electric-furnace steel prices had fully recovered; he was not brought in to clean up after a crisis.

In his first year, FY ended March 2024, net sales were ¥367.2 billion and operating profit ¥38.1 billion, holding at the prior year's level. Net sales shrank to ¥326.8 billion and operating profit to ¥30.1 billion in FY ended March 2025, and to ¥268.1 billion and ¥7.2 billion in FY ended March 2026. Compared with the year before he took office, net sales fell by about 30% and operating profit by about 80% over three years.
