Background
He joined NGK Insulators in March 1980. He headed the NAS battery division of the Power Business Group from April 2004, became an Executive Officer in June 2007 and Managing Executive Officer in June 2011. He became Representative Director and President in June 2014 and Representative Director and Chairman in April 2021. A career employee, he came up through the power business that handles NAS batteries.

In June 2014 he succeeded Taro Kato as Representative Director and President, three years after becoming Managing Executive Officer in June 2011. In FY ended March 2014, just before he took over, consolidated net sales were ¥308.6 billion and operating profit ¥44.3 billion, a recovery from the net loss of ¥35.3 billion in FY ended March 2012. The appointment appears to have put a manager who had led the NAS battery business at the head of a company spanning both power storage and automotive ceramics.

In FY ended March 2017 net sales fell to ¥401.2 billion and operating profit to ¥63.2 billion, but net sales recovered to ¥463.5 billion in FY ended March 2019. The consolidated workforce rose from 13,210 to 20,000 in FY ended March 2020. In his final year, FY ended March 2021, net sales were ¥452.0 billion and operating profit ¥50.8 billion.
