Background

He joined Sony Chemicals Corporation (now Dexerials) in July 2001 and became head of development in the Optical Materials Division in April 2005. After Dexerials was launched in September 2012 he served as deputy head of the Optical Solution Products Division, and in April 2014 became its head as an Executive Officer. He became head of the Product Development Division in April 2016 and also head of the Automotive Business Promotion Group in April 2017. His career from joining to the presidency centered on developing and commercializing optical materials.

Selection

In June 2019 he became Representative Director and President, succeeding Takashi Ichinose. Ichinose came from Sony Corporation and had been President of the predecessor Sony Chemical & Information Device Corporation since August 2008. Shinya was promoted five years after becoming an Executive Officer in April 2014 and was 49 when he took office. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, revenue was ¥60.6 billion and operating income ¥3.7 billion, both down from ¥70.1 billion and ¥6.2 billion the year before.

Initiatives

In October 2020 the company set up Dexerials Precision Components Co., Ltd. for its inorganic optical components business, and in July 2021 moved its head office from Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, to Shimotsuke City, Tochigi Prefecture. In March 2022 it acquired the optical semiconductor maker Kyoto Semiconductor Co., Ltd. as a consolidated subsidiary, and in April 2024 Dexerials Photonics Solutions Corporation, which integrated the two companies, began operations. Revenue grew from ¥65.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2021 to ¥110.4 billion in FY ended March 2025, and operating income from ¥11.3 billion to ¥39.7 billion.
