Background

He joined Lion Fat and Oil in March 1969. That company merged on equal terms with Lion Dentifrice in January 1980 to form Lion Corporation, and Fujishige came from the Fat and Oil side. After serving as head of the Innovation Room in March 1990 and head of LOCOS Promotion in March 1992, he became Director and head of the International Business Division in March 1996 and Managing Director and head of Household Products Sales in March 2000. In March 2002, as Representative Director and Senior Managing Director, he took responsibility for the Household Products business, and from April 2004 he also headed Lion Corporation (Thailand) Ltd.

Education: Keio University, Faculty of Commerce

Selection

In March 2004 he became Representative Director, President and Chief Operating Officer, and in March 2006 he also became Chairman of the Board and CEO while overseeing the Household Products business. Mitsuo Obayashi, who also joined Lion Fat and Oil in March 1969, became Managing Director in March 2006, while Fujishige, a Director since March 1996, reached the board ten years ahead of his fellow entrant. His successive posts as head of the International Business Division and head of Household Products Sales matched exactly the duties he took on when he became President.

Initiatives

In December 2004, shortly after he became President, the company acquired the over-the-counter drug business of Chugai Pharmaceutical and the household chemicals business of Korea's CJ Corp. It closed the Tokyo plant in October 2006 and set up Lion Eco Chemicals Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia in June 2007. In July 2007 it acquired from U.S.-based Bristol-Myers Squibb the trademark rights to a painkiller in Japan and the Asia-Oceania region, and dissolved the joint venture Bristol-Myers Lion. Non-consolidated operating income rose from ¥0.3 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2006 to ¥11.2 billion in FY ended December 2011.
