Background
A career employee, he joined Kao in April 1990. He became an Executive Officer in March 2014, Managing Executive Officer in January 2016 and a Director in March of that year. He became Senior Managing Executive Officer in January 2018 and Representative Director in March 2019. His appointment as President in January 2021 came in his 31st year with the company, five years after joining the board.

In the fiscal year ended December 2020, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥1,381.9 billion, operating income ¥175.6 billion and net income ¥126.1 billion, with operating income down ¥36.1 billion from ¥211.7 billion the year before. Initiatives
In March 2023 he set out a transformation of the business model, aiming to rebuild the company around businesses less exposed to price competition. In the fiscal year ended December 2023 net sales were ¥1,532.5 billion and operating income fell to ¥60.0 billion, below the ¥175.6 billion of the year before he took office. Operating income recovered to ¥146.6 billion with net income of ¥107.7 billion in FY ended December 2024, and to ¥164.1 billion with net income of ¥120.0 billion in FY ended December 2025.
