Background

He joined Mitsubishi Corporation in July 1969 and served as General Manager of the Paper Raw Materials Department from July 1995. In March 1999 he moved to Hokuetsu Paper as Counselor and General Manager of Materials, becoming a Director in June that year, Managing Director in June 2001, Senior Managing Director in June 2004 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in July 2006. An outsider who came from a trading company's paper raw materials department handling procurement, he became President nine years after transferring.

Selection

In April 2008 he succeeded Masaaki Miwa as Representative Director, President and CEO. In the FY ended March 2008, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales rose to ¥172.7 billion from ¥158.9 billion the year before, while ordinary income fell from ¥9.2 billion to ¥7.9 billion and net income from ¥4.3 billion to ¥4.0 billion. Mitsubishi Corporation was not among the major shareholders in the FY ended March 2006, but by the FY ended March 2010, two years after he took office, it had become the largest with 24.72%, so his former employer also backed him on the capital side.

Initiatives

Over his 18 years, consolidated net sales grew from ¥182.8 billion in the FY ended March 2009 to ¥287.7 billion in the FY ended March 2026, peaking during his tenure at ¥305.7 billion in the FY ended March 2025. The workforce rose by more than 1,000, from 3,028 to 4,071 in the FY ended March 2010, peaking at 4,688 in the FY ended March 2020. The shareholder base also changed: in the FY ended March 2026 Daio Paper was the largest shareholder with 17.51%, and Mitsubishi Corporation, which held 24.72% in the FY ended March 2010, had dropped out of the top ten.
